Planning Your Next Ski Trip

ski trip in Breckenridge

A ski vacation can be a great way to bond with family and friends. There are few things more memorable and fun than swishing down the slopes surrounded by beautiful mountain views. Below are some tips and things to remember when planning your next ski trip. Follow this brief checklist and enjoy a stress-free ski vacation!

Renting is a great option for the beginner skier or the advanced rider who can only make it out to the mountain once or twice a year. It is best to get gear the afternoon or night before your first day of skiing so you can be riding the be ready for first tracks the next day! Some shops will even deliver gear directly to your room. Be honest with the rental shop employee about your ability level. High end demo skis do not make you an advanced skier and can make learning more difficult. Renting also allows for flexibility in choosing your gear, so if a surprise powder storm hits, you can trade in your groomers skis for something a little wider to keep you on top of the snow.

Skiing in Breckeridge

Though the days of skiing in jeans has not completely vanished (unfortunately), proper snow pants and ski jackets are a must for most skiers and riders. When shopping for snow pants or a jacket, keep in mind base and mid layers. Breckenridge can get very cold with temperatures dipping into the single digits, but with proper clothing you will feel warm and comfortable. Make sure your ski jacket and pants are roomy enough for one or two base layers, yet snug enough you can move comfortably and not get swallowed by clothing.

Breckenridge ski vacation tips

Booking early will ensure you get the best deals on a mountain condo in winter. Unlike other ski resorts, Breckenridge is conveniently located only two hours from Denver and surprise powder days can bring skiers and riders up from the city driving up demand for rooms. To be sure you get the best deal, book as soon as possible. The absolute best time to book for the upcoming winter season is at the end of the current winter season. Booking your Christmas ski trip while you enjoy spring skiing in April will ensure you can get the room type you want at the best rate available. If you book soon, you can get 20% off your entire stay!

Even locals think twice before driving in the mountains. Snowy roads, traffic and limited parking in town can put a serious damper on your vacation and cut into time better spent relaxing. Luckily Breckenridge has an extensive Free Ride bus system which can take riders from Main Street, to the mountain and almost anywhere else you want to go.  Beaver Run also provides a free guest shuttle so you can leave your vehicle in the safe and warm indoor parking garage and still get to and from Main Street quickly and easily. If flying into Denver Airport our concierge can book an airport shuttle that will drop you off directly at our doorstep!

Lift Tickets and Other Activities

Just like lodging, buying your lift tickets early and online can save money and time. Breckenridge sells up to 7 single day tickets or, if you know you will be skiing more than 3 days you can purchase a season pass. While skiing and snowboarding is the most common activity in Breckenridge, there are tons of other winter activities if you are looking for something different. The Breckenridge Nordic Center has miles of cross-country ski trails or guided snow shoe tours. Dog-sledding and snowmobiling are also popular and unique experiences. Our concierge can help book any of these activities and answer any questions you may have.
