Our Five Favorite Fall Activities

Fall is one of our favorites. Why? The temperatures start to cool off, the fall colors are brilliant and the trails, shops and restaurants are less crowded. Plus, it's the season for warm sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, scarves, boots and hikes with leaves crunching underneath.

Here are our 5 favorite fall activities in Breckenridge:
  1. LEAF PEEPING: The hills and mountains around Breckenridge come alive with the sounds of quaking aspen leaves in September and into October. The golden yellows dominate the landscape along with pops of vibrant orange and deep reds. Plan a drive up Boreas Pass (but be prepared, it's a popular spot). Or, just drive around Lake Dillon with a stop at Sapphire Point off of Swan Mountain Road. Snap some selfies, pick up a picnic lunch (from Beaver Run's Skywalk Deli) and enjoy a beautiful, crisp autumn day in the High Country.
  2. HIKING OR BIKING: Take a stroll through town or enjoy a hike off of French Gulch Road near the Country Boy Mine. Or, a stroll to see the Troll scuplture - Isak Heartstone - located an easy hike through the woods near the Steven C. West Ice Rink. If you're visiting Breckenridge during peak fall foliage, don't miss a hike or bike ride on Aspen Alley. (but be prepared - Boreas Pass Road is a popular fall drive with crowds on the trails)
  3. HALLOWEEN: Scare yourself with haunted tours offered through the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance especially the Tombstone Tales at Twilight. Breck Create usually hosts a series of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Day) festivites for adutls and kids featuring food, crafts, dancing, offrendas and other programming.
  4. WARMING UP BY A FIREPLACE: Book a stay with Beaver Run and request a condo with a wood-burning fireplace. Then, get cozy. Put on your favorite, warm socks, grab a cup of steaming coffee, a good book and settle in to enjoy a crisp fall day in front of the fireplace. Or, check out some of the propane fire pits in town and warm up with appetizers, a warm drink and a special someone.
  5. DOWNTOWN BRECKENRIDGE: One of our favorite year-round activities is to spend time strolling down Main Street Breckenridge. Check out a history tour or stop for a coffee or lunch. The historic Victorian architecture is the perfect backdrop to the delicious dining options and the action-packed shopping.
